Bengaluru Likely to Have 400 Official Wards by September 26

Share

Bengaluru, September 16, 2025

Authorities expect that the city will soon be officially divided into 400 wards, with the names of these wards set to be formalised by September 26.

After formation of the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) and the reshaping of city administration following restructuring of BBMP, the process of redrawing ward boundaries is underway to prepare for upcoming local elections.

The expected distribution of the 400 wards across zones is as follows:
• West Zone: ~110 wards
• Central Zone: 63 wards
• North Zone: 75 wards
• East Zone: 50 wards
• South Zone: 90 to 100 wards

Some examples:
• Central Zone will include areas around the assembly constituencies of C. V. Raman Nagar, Shanti Nagar, Shivaji Nagar, Gandhinagar, Chamarajapete, and Chikkapete.
• East Zone will cover assembly constituencies like K. R. Puram and Mahadevapura.

Because of population density and geography, some neighbourhoods are being split or re-allocated. For instance, parts of Mahadevapura are being divided, and some areas of Yeshwantpur, R. R. Nagar, etc., may fall under a different zone than before.

Once these changes are officially notified, local elections will proceed under the new ward and zone structure.
