A 33-year-old contract driver employed by the Chief Accounts Officer of the Chikkaballapur Zilla Panchayat died by suicide on Thursday within the premises of the Deputy Commissioner’s office. A note recovered at the scene has led to serious allegations against sitting Member of Parliament Dr. K. Sudhakar.
According to the suicide note, the deceased—identified as Babu—accused Dr. Sudhakar and two others of cheating him out of ₹25 lakh with the promise of securing him a permanent government job. Based on the note’s contents, the Chikkaballapur police have registered a case of abetment to suicide against Dr. Sudhakar, along with his alleged associates Nagesh N. and Manjunath.
Sources say Babu had initially approached Nagesh in 2021 seeking help in securing a permanent post. Nagesh, claiming close ties to Dr. Sudhakar—who was the Health and Family Welfare Minister at the time—allegedly demanded ₹40 lakh for the favour. He then introduced Babu to Manjunath, a second division assistant, who reportedly corroborated the claim and said he too had benefitted similarly.
Believing the assurances, Babu arranged ₹25 lakh by pooling savings and raising loans, and handed over the money on January 15, 2021. The note alleges that Nagesh accepted the payment, claiming the job would follow soon after discussions with Dr. Sudhakar. However, as time passed, Babu’s calls were allegedly ignored and no job materialized.
Unable to recover the money or secure employment, Babu reportedly grew despondent, ultimately leading to his suicide. The police have launched a detailed investigation and are expected to summon the accused individuals for questioning in the coming days.
