Karnataka Cabinet Portfolio Allocation Soon, No Confusion: G Parameshwara

BENGALURU — Senior Karnataka leader and Home Minister Dr. G. Parameshwara on Monday dismissed speculations of internal discord within the state government regarding portfolio distribution for newly inducted cabinet members, asserting that Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar will finalize and announce the department assignments shortly.

Speaking to media persons in Bengaluru, Parameshwara clarified that the delay in portfolio distribution was a standard administrative procedure involving high-level consultations in New Delhi rather than a sign of political friction.

“There is absolutely no confusion regarding the allocation of portfolios. The Chief Minister traveled to New Delhi to hold crucial discussions with the party’s high command. He is returning today, and I expect the department allocations to be announced shortly after his arrival,” Parameshwara stated.

High Command Consultations in New Delhi

Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar met with All India Congress Committee (AICC) President Mallikarjun Kharge and General Secretary (Organization) K. C. Venugopal in the national capital to finalize portfolio allocations for the 19 ministers inducted on August 3.

With this expansion, the cabinet strength stands at 33, leaving one berth vacant.

Aside from finalizing portfolio assignments, Congress leadership in Delhi also deliberated on managing discontent among senior lawmakers left out during the cabinet expansion. Party leaders, including KPCC President B. K. Hariprasad and AICC General Secretary in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala, have been actively engaging with aggrieved legislators to ensure organizational unity ahead of the upcoming legislative sessions.

Preparation for the Monsoon Session

Addressing concerns about whether new ministers would face operational challenges answering parliamentary queries without prior portfolio experience, Parameshwara assured that the cabinet members are fully equipped to handle legislative responsibilities.

“While newly appointed ministers might encounter minor initial hurdles, senior colleagues and experienced department officials will brief them thoroughly,” Parameshwara remarked. “All inductees are seasoned legislators who understand administrative mechanics well.”

The government aims to resolve all portfolio assignments and internal consultations ahead of the Karnataka Legislature’s Monsoon Session, scheduled to begin on August 13.
