Nandgad, Belagavi: In a shocking incident of domestic violence reported from Nandgad village in Khanapur taluk, a 34-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly attempting to murder his wife by setting her ablaze. The dispute was reportedly triggered by the accused’s objection to his wife wearing a nightdress at home.
The accused, identified as Krishna Patil, had been embroiled in frequent arguments with his 32-year-old wife, Manjula Patil, regarding her choice of clothing. According to police, the accused insisted that his wife wear a saree instead of a nightdress while at home.
The situation escalated on Tuesday night when a heated altercation broke out between the couple over the same issue. Police officials stated that during the argument, Krishna Patil allegedly doused his wife in kerosene and set her on fire.
The victim suffered severe burn injuries, estimated at approximately 80 percent. She was rushed to the Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences (BIMS) for emergency care. Due to the critical nature of her injuries, she was later transferred to a specialized hospital in Goa for advanced medical treatment.
The Nandgad Police have registered a case against the accused, and he has been taken into custody. A senior police officer confirmed that a thorough investigation is currently underway to ascertain further details of the incident.
