BENGALURU: In one of the most chilling crimes to hit the city, Bengaluru police have arrested a 52-year-old cab driver for the systematic murder of seven members of his extended family. The accused allegedly used a grinding stone to kill the victims over a span of two days before dumping their bodies near the rugged foothills of Nandi Hills in the neighbouring Chikkaballapur district.

Authorities have successfully recovered the body of a seven-year-old boy from the search site, while specialized police teams continue a massive operation to locate the remaining six bodies hidden across steep forest slopes.

The Victims

Preliminary police investigations reveal that the accused targeted multiple generations of his wife’s family. The victims have been identified as:

Bullet Sunitha (40) – Wife of the accused

Bullet Roopavati (65) – Mother-in-law

Bullet Shivakumar (30) & Shankar (44) – Brothers-in-law

Bullet Divya (30) & Nalini (29) – Wives of Shivakumar and Shankar

Bullet Puneeth (7) – Son of Shivakumar (whose body has been recovered)

Unraveling the Conspiracy

The horrific series of events came to light following a missing-person complaint lodged by Nalini’s mother at the Sriramapura police station after her daughter became completely untraceable.

Upon tracking leads and examining communication logs, investigators grew suspicious of the primary suspect, Indushekar alias Shekhar (52), a cab driver residing in a one-room terrace house near Bhashyam Circle in Rajajinagar. Under intense police interrogation, Shekhar confessed to his involvement, detailing how he allegedly invited members of his wife’s family to his home individually over two days before executing the murders.

Motive: Family Feuds and Resentment

Police sources indicate that Shekhar and Sunitha had been married for approximately 20 years. However, their relationship had grown heavily strained due to frequent domestic disputes.

Investigators suspect that chronic arguments over Sunitha’s ongoing closeness and communication with her parental family triggered extreme resentment, ultimately driving Shekhar to plan the massacre. Despite several family interventions and attempts by relatives to resolve ongoing differences, the conflict escalated to a fatal breaking point.
