Shivamogga, June 28: Police in Shivamogga have arrested Dr. Ashwin Hebbar, an associate professor at the Shivamogga Institute of Medical Sciences (SIMS), on charges of sexually harassing a postgraduate student.

According to police sources, the arrest follows a complaint filed on June 20 by the student at the Shivamogga Women Police Station. The student alleged that the harassment took place during a dinner event held at a local hotel.

Following the complaint, Hebbar had been absconding. In response, Superintendent of Police G.K. Mithun Kumar formed special teams to trace and apprehend the accused. He was taken into custody on Friday and subsequently remanded to judicial custody.

Sources also confirmed that Hebbar had faced similar allegations in 2022.
