MANDYA: The daughter of Tumakuru Rural BJP MLA B. Suresh Gowda has been booked following an altercation at a prominent temple in Srirangapatna, Mandya district, where she allegedly slapped and threatened an on-duty woman Sub-Inspector of Police (PSI).
The incident occurred during Bheemana Amavasya at the famous Aarathi Ukkada Maramma Temple, which drew large crowds of devotees. According to police sources, Aishwarya, the daughter of the BJP legislator, arrived for darshan through the VIP entrance accompanied by Maddur PSI Shekar and two others.
Dispute Over Temple Sanctum Entry
Eyewitness accounts and police filings indicate that after completing initial prayers, Aishwarya attempted to directly enter the garbhagudi (sanctum sanctorum). Given the heavy rush and potential unrest among queuing devotees, the on-duty officer, PSI Savitha, requested her to wait for two minutes.
This request reportedly triggered a heated argument. Aishwarya allegedly invoked her political connections, shouting, “I am an MLA’s daughter,” and verbally abused the officer. The confrontation escalated further when Inspector Lakshmi entered the area, prompting Aishwarya to question why other officials were permitted inside while she was halted.
During the argument, Aishwarya allegedly slapped PSI Savitha on the cheek and threatened to derail her professional career.
Counter-Complaints Filed in Mandya
Following the incident, PSI Savitha lodged a formal complaint at the Mandya Women’s Police Station, accusing Aishwarya of physical assault and obstructing a public servant from discharging official duties.
Conversely, Aishwarya filed a counter-complaint at the Kyanagahalli Police Station, alleging high-handedness and misconduct on the part of PSI Savitha.
Speaking to the media regarding the progress of the case, Mandya District Superintendent of Police Mallikarjun Baldandi (referencing local police leadership updates) confirmed that cross-complaints have been registered. “Both parties have submitted their statements alleging misconduct. The police are examining available footage and questioning witnesses to conduct a fair investigation,” the official stated.
The incident has sparked widespread debate over VIP culture and the safety of on-duty personnel in public spaces, as local authorities continue their inquiry into both complaints.
