Kodagu: Two-Year-Old Girl Missing in Coffee Estate Found by Search Dog
Bangalore Mail Desk
Kodagu, December 1: A two-year-old girl who went missing in a coffee estate in Kodagu was found safe after an overnight search — thanks to a trained dog named Oreo.
A labour couple, Sunil and Nagini, had taken their two young children along with them to a coffee plantation in Kongana village of Ponnampete taluk, as they had no one to look after them at home. The children spent the day happily playing in the estate while their parents worked on the coffee harvest.
However, when the couple prepared to leave in the evening, they were shocked to realise that their younger child, Sukanya, had gone missing. Panic-stricken, the parents searched the estate but could not find her. They immediately alerted the Forest Department, which began a search operation that continued late into the night. Despite hours of combing the dense plantation, the child remained untraceable.
Dog ‘Oreo’ Leads the Rescue
The search resumed the next morning with the assistance of handler Anil and his trained dogs. During the operation, one of the dogs, Oreo, picked up Sukanya’s scent and began barking continuously near a higher section of the estate. Following the dog’s lead, the search team located the missing child.
Sukanya was found safe after spending an entire night in the dark, dense plantation. Her parents, who were overwhelmed with fear and anxiety, breathed a sigh of relief after being reunited with their daughter.
