BENGALURU: The high-profile political controversy surrounding the alleged sting video targeting senior Congress leader and former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has taken a massive turn. Bengaluru Police have officially linked Union Minister and Janata Dal (Secular) leader H.D. Kumaraswamy to the prime accused in the case, further escalating tensions in Karnataka’s political landscape.

The ongoing investigation by the Central Crime Branch (CCB) has increasingly focused on the digital dissemination and origin of the contentious video clip. According to top police sources, the trail of evidence has pointed toward active coordination involving networks connected to the JD(S) social media machinery.

A Fabricated Trap, Claims Police Probe

The controversy erupted after a fabricated video surfaced online, which law enforcement and forensic analyses have categorized as an engineered attempt to malign public figures. Siddaramaiah had earlier lodged a formal police complaint, stating that the video was a malicious fabrication designed for blackmail and political character assassination.

The CCB stated that the key objective of the investigation remains determining how the staged footage was manufactured, uploaded, and weaponized across social media platforms through channels like the YouTube handle ‘Karnataka Honey Trap’. Investigators have already traced the refurbished mobile phone used to upload the clip to Delhi, resulting in previous arrests and rigorous questioning of network handlers.

Political Fallout and Cross-Allegations

The latest police disclosures implicating links to the Union Minister have drawn sharp reactions across party lines.

The JD(S) Defense: H.D. Kumaraswamy has repeatedly lashed out at the state government, accusing the administration of witch-hunting party workers and misusing the state police apparatus to target his political camp. The JD(S) leadership maintains that the probe is a partisan effort to deflect attention from internal Congress fissures.

The Ruling Party’s Stance: Congress leaders have hit back, asserting that the investigation is strictly following digital and forensic footprints to unmask the conspirators behind the fake media campaign.

With forensic teams analyzing recovered digital hardware and expanding their web of notices to examine additional suspects, the political friction between the ruling Congress and the BJP-JD(S) alliance is expected to intensify further in the coming days.
