MYSURU / BENGALURU: Breaking his silence on a high-stakes political controversy, former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has launched a scathing attack, alleging that Congress leader Krupa Alva and Power TV head Rakesh Shetty engineered a fabricated sting operation to blackmail and defame him.
Addressing the media in Mysuru, the senior leader dismissed the purported video as entirely false and part of a coordinated political conspiracy hatched against him now that he is out of active executive power.
A Coordinated Blackmail Attempt: Siddaramaiah
Siddaramaiah stated that the issue first came to his attention on September 26. Maintaining that he has held an unblemished public record since first becoming a minister in 1984, he asserted that the allegations hold zero credibility.
“This is a false case. This case was done with the intention to blackmail me,” Siddaramaiah said. “Therefore, I myself have filed a formal police complaint so that the truth comes out. People need to know who is behind this conspiracy. A woman named Krupa Alva from Dakshina Kannada and Rakesh Shetty both appeared in the video. Rakesh Shetty himself has admitted that they did it. There is no truth in this footage.”
To curb the spread of the unverified material, Siddaramaiah confirmed that he has successfully approached a civil court to obtain a legal injunction restraining its circulation.
Yathindra Siddaramaiah Points to Internal Party Friction
Echoing his father’s stance, Karnataka Legislative Council member and Siddaramaiah’s son, Yathindra Siddaramaiah, alleged that internal party dynamics played a role. He claimed that the sting operation was designed to damage his father’s enduring political legacy.
According to Yathindra, a female party worker seeking a ticket from the Puttur assembly constituency was prima facie involved alongside the media head. However, he cautioned against generalizing the actions of an individual party worker to the entire Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC).
Police Probe and Legal Proceedings
Investigators examining the case have gathered call detail records (CDRs) allegedly mapping communication between Rakesh Shetty, Krupa Alva, and individuals linked to political circles. Meanwhile, legal proceedings have seen Rakesh Shetty seeking anticipatory bail through his legal counsel as police widen their inquiry into the digital footprints, chats, and audio logs associated with the controversy.
Despite demands from various political quarters for a Special Investigation Team (SIT), Siddaramaiah expressed complete confidence in local law enforcement, stating that a straightforward police probe will conclusively unmask the conspirators.
