BENGALURU/GURUGRAM: In a significant political development, senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and prominent national figure Dr. Sudha Yadav has been appointed as the new Governor of Karnataka. She will succeed the incumbent Governor, Thaawarchand Gehlot.
Dr. Yadav is widely recognized for her stellar political journey and deep grassroots connection. She currently serves as a core member of the BJP’s highest policy-making bodies—the Central Parliamentary Board and the Central Election Committee. Notably, she made history as only the second woman leader after the late former Union Minister Sushma Swaraj to secure a position on the party’s apex board.
A Journey of Resilience and Public Service
Dr. Yadav’s entry into politics was marked by profound personal tragedy coupled with immense national duty. Her husband, Sukhbir Singh Yadav, a Deputy Commandant in the Border Security Force (BSF), made the ultimate sacrifice for the nation, getting martyred during the 1999 Kargil War.
Following encouragement and a special appeal by then-BJP state in-charge Narendra Modi, she stepped into public life. In 1999, she contested her maiden Lok Sabha election from the Mahendragarh constituency in Haryana and secured a resounding victory, entering Parliament as a first-time MP.
Roots in Haryana, National Stature
Originally hailing from Motla Kalan village in Haryana’s Rewari district, Dr. Yadav shares a deep-rooted connection with the Ahirwal belt. Long active in public life and residing in Gurugram’s Sector 10, her decades of organizational experience, administrative acumen, and dedication to public welfare have now earned her this high constitutional office at the helm of Karnataka state.
