Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has invited star sprinter M.R. Poovamma to meet him in Bengaluru on October 6th, assuring full government backing and assistance for athletes across the state following her outstanding medal winning campaign at the Asian Games in Japan.
Poovamma delivered an exceptional performance on the international track, securing a gold medal in the women’s 4x400m relay and a silver medal in the mixed 4x400m relay.
Chief Minister Promises State Support
Speaking directly to Poovamma over a telephone call on Saturday, CM Shivakumar praised her double-medal victory, emphasizing that her achievement has brought huge pride to the state and country. He reiterated the Karnataka government’s strong commitment to backing local sports talent and providing necessary aid to help state athletes excel at the global level.
“I am very proud of what you have achieved. I follow athletics closely, and our government will provide all necessary assistance and support to empower you and help athletes in the state achieve greater heights,” the Chief Minister told Poovamma, while also extending his congratulations to her relay teammates.
