Karnataka May Scrap Bidadi Township Project, Indicates BK Hariprasad

BENGALURU: The proposed Bidadi township project may be shelved by the Karnataka government following strong resistance from local landowners, senior political leadership has indicated.
State Congress president BK Hariprasad stated that the government could entirely drop the mega-township proposal if local farmers refuse to part with their land. The statement highlights the ruling administration’s stance on prioritizing farmer consent over forced land acquisition for industrial and urban development.
This political development follows an open invitation from JD(S) leader and former Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy, who has urged the Chief Minister to personally meet with the local residents and understand their grievances.
Originally envisioned to de-congest Bengaluru by establishing a self-sustaining satellite town, the future of the Bidadi township project now hangs in the balance as political leaders push for direct dialogue with the affected farming community.
