Karnataka Political Crisis: CM Siddaramaiah’s May 24 Delhi Visit Explored

By Bangalore Mail Political Bureau

Bengaluru: The political temperature in Karnataka has breached the boiling point. With the Congress government navigating critical milestones in power, all eyes are locked on New Delhi. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is scheduled for a high-stakes visit to the national capital on May 24th to meet the Congress high command, a move that political analysts believe will either seal his position or trigger a massive structural overhaul in Vidhana Soudha.

Officially, the Chief Minister’s office maintains that the visit is geared toward a long-pending cabinet reshuffle and securing administrative approvals. However, insiders reveal that the ghost of the rumored power-sharing formula has returned to haunt the high command, setting up a definitive showdown between rival factions.

The Core Agenda: Cabinet Reshuffle or Leadership Shift?

The primary narrative pushed by the Chief Minister’s camp is that the May 24th meeting with Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and the central leadership is strictly about administrative restructuring.

• Dropping Underperformers: The CM is expected to pitch for dropping several non-performing ministers to inject fresh energy into the cabinet.

• Accommodating Aspirants: With multiple MLAs openly airing their ministerial ambitions, Siddaramaiah wants the high command’s nod to fill vacant berths and neutralize internal dissent.

• The Power-Sharing Formula: On the other side of the aisle, supporters of Deputy CM D.K. Shivakumar are ramping up the pressure. They insist that according to initial understandings, a mid-term leadership transition is overdue, and their leader should now assume the top post.

High Stakes: The AHINDA Card vs. The Dalit CM Demand

As the date for the Delhi trip approaches, factional meetings within the state capital have intensified. The political chess board is seeing complex moves from all major communities.

Siddaramaiah’s loyalists have already laid the groundwork, leaning on the powerful AHINDA (Alpsankhyataru, Hindulidavaru, and Dalitaru) card. They are reminding the high command that the Congress’s electoral backbone in Karnataka relies heavily on Siddaramaiah’s secular backward-classes coalition.

To counter this, as well as D.K. Shivakumar’s Vokkaliga-backed claim, sections of the party are floating an alternative paradigm: a Dalit Chief Minister. Senior leaders have subtly hinted that if a leadership change is inevitable, a veteran Dalit face should take the helm—a move that could effectively alter the calculations for both top camps.

What to Expect on May 24th

The high-level dinners and coordination meetings held earlier this week served as a tense prelude. While leaders continue to put on a united front for the public, the impending May 24th huddle in Delhi will not allow for polite evasions.

The high command faces its toughest balancing act yet in Karnataka. Whether the Delhi visit results in a routine cabinet face-lift or a major structural shift, the outcome on May 24th will dictate the trajectory of Karnataka politics for the remainder of the term.
