Chain-snatchers have struck again in Bengaluru, this time using machetes and injuring a woman in the process. The incident took place in the Girinagar area, near Hosakerehalli.
Two women, Usha and Varlakshmi, were returning home at about 9 PM after attending a music event organized for Ganesh Chaturthi when two attackers riding a bike confronted them. The assailants, wearing helmets that obscured their faces, reportedly slashed the gold chain from Usha’s neck and grabbed Varlakshmi’s chain as well. When Varlakshmi tried to resist, her finger was severed in the melee. The attackers fled immediately.
Elsewhere in the area of Konanakunte, another attack was reported around 10 PM: a woman’s gold chain weighing about 20 grams was snatched by criminals.
Authorities are investigating both incidents. Security concerns are growing among residents, especially during late evening crowds returning from festivals or public gatherings.
