Bengaluru:Senior Congress leader and MLC B.K. Hariprasad has strongly criticized Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) President D.K. Shivakumar for allegedly singing an RSS prayer song in the Assembly.
Speaking to the media in New Delhi, Hariprasad said while BJP leaders are defending Shivakumar’s act, Congress cannot accept such behavior from its state president.
“As Deputy Chief Minister, we have no objection if D.K. Shivakumar sings the RSS prayer, because the government belongs to all 7 crore people of Karnataka, not to one party. But as KPCC President, he cannot sing the RSS song. If he has done so, he must apologize,” Hariprasad demanded. He further reminded that the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has been banned three times in India and was linked to the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi. “Singing the RSS song as Congress President is unacceptable,” he added.
The veteran leader also took a jibe at Shivakumar’s multiple identities. “Sometimes he calls himself a farmer, sometimes a quarry owner, then an educationist, a businessman, or an industrialist. We don’t know whom he was trying to impress by singing the RSS prayer. If he did it as Deputy CM, we don’t object. But as KPCC President, he must apologize,” Hariprasad reiterated.
