Mangaluru: Karnataka BJP State President BY Vijayendra visited the family of Sowjanya, the 17-year-old who was brutally assaulted and murdered in 2012, to express solidarity with their fight for justice. The visit took place on Monday after a BJP meeting in Dharmasthala.

Vijayendra travelled directly to the family’s home in Pangala village, Dharmasthala, where he met Sowjanya’s mother Kusumavathi. During the emotional meeting, Kusumavathi alleged that she has been facing criticism and intimidation for demanding justice for her daughter’s death.

“We are being pressured because we are seeking justice. Even your party members accuse us of building a big house and making money using Sowjanya’s name. But justice has not been served,” Kusumavathi told Vijayendra, expressing deep anguish.

She further revealed that the family has been receiving indirect threats whenever they raised their voice for harsher punishment for the accused. “There have been attempts to silence us,” she said in tears.

Responding to her concerns, Vijayendra assured the grieving mother that the BJP would support the family if they decide to challenge the CBI court’s verdict in the Supreme Court of India.

“No one can put a price on your daughter’s life,” Vijayendra told Kusumavathi. “If you wish to appeal in the Supreme Court, both I and the BJP will extend full support,” he said.

When a family member expressed disappointment that BJP could have taken action earlier, Vijayendra responded, “We cannot bring your child back. But if you choose to fight this case in the Supreme Court, we will stand with you in every possible way.”

The Sowjanya case, which shook Karnataka in 2012, remains one of the state’s most high-profile demands for justice, with activists and citizens continuously calling for stricter action against the perpetrators.
