Bangalore Mail Desk

Bengaluru is set to welcome its long-awaited Yellow Line metro service connecting Rashtreeya Vidyalaya Road (RV Road) and Bommasandra through Electronics City. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to inaugurate the line on 10 August 2025, with passenger services beginning the following day.

The 19.15‑kilometre stretch will cover 16 stations, significantly improving the city’s north‑south connectivity and easing traffic congestion in several key areas.

Key Details:
• Operating hours: Trains will run from 5 AM to 11 PM, in line with the metro’s existing schedule.
• Frequency: Initially, services will be available every 25 minutes with only three trainsets in operation.
• Ridership projections: The line is expected to start with 25,000 passengers per day, generating daily revenue of about ₹10–15 lakh. Once all 15 trainsets are deployed, ridership could increase to 150,000–200,000 passengers daily, with revenue climbing to ₹60 lakh or more.
• Travel time: A one-way trip between RV Road and Bommasandra will take around 38 minutes.

Authorities have decided to open all 16 stations simultaneously, reversing earlier plans to launch the line in phases.

Construction and Safety Approvals

Construction began in 2017 with contracts worth more than ₹5,000 crore. Most of the major civil works were completed by 2023, but delays in procuring and delivering trainsets pushed back the launch date.

In late July 2025, the line received safety clearance from the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety, clearing the way for operations to begin in August. Following the launch, the frequency is expected to gradually improve—first to 20-minute intervals, and eventually to 5-minute headways during peak hours once additional trains are added in early 2026.

Impact on Commuters

The new corridor is expected to provide major relief at traffic bottlenecks, especially around Silk Board Junction, while offering a faster and more convenient travel option for thousands of daily commuters heading to Electronics City.
