Bengaluru: As actor-filmmaker Rishab Shetty celebrates his 42nd birthday, Hombale Films marked the occasion with a major announcement Kantara: Chapter 1, the highly anticipated prequel to the 2022 blockbuster Kantara, has officially wrapped up filming. The production house also released a striking new poster featuring Shetty in a powerful new avatar, intensifying anticipation for what is poised to be one of the year’s most awaited cinematic releases.

Following the overwhelming success of Kantara, which emerged as one of 2022’s biggest sleeper hits and redefined box office dynamics across India, Hombale Films is gearing up to expand the legacy with this ambitious prequel. The studio, renowned for its Pan-India blockbusters such as KGF, Salaar, and Kantara, is leaving no stone unturned in its efforts to deliver another milestone in Indian cinema.

The newly released poster has already set social media abuzz, capturing the raw intensity and mystique that made the original film a cultural phenomenon. Described as a gift to fans and to Shetty on his birthday, the poster teases the origin story of the legend that moved millions.

What sets Kantara: Chapter 1 apart is not just its narrative ambition but its production scale. Hombale Films has reportedly choreographed an extensive war sequence for the film, enlisting over 500 trained fighters and more than 3,000 extras. This elaborate sequence was shot over 50 days in a specially constructed 25-acre set, making it one of the largest of its kind in Indian cinematic history.

With Rishab Shetty once again at the helm—both in front of and behind the camera—Kantara: Chapter 1 is expected to blend myth, folklore, and high-octane drama, delivering a visual spectacle rooted in indigenous storytelling.

The film is slated for release on October 2, 2025, and is part of Hombale Films’ robust upcoming slate, which also includes Salaar: Part —2 Shouryaanga Parvam and other yet-to-be-announced ventures.

As Kantara: Chapter 1 edges closer to its theatrical debut, all eyes are now on what promises to be another defining chapter in Indian cinema.
