Karnataka: Health Department Bans 15 Medicines Including Beauty Enhancers!

Bengaluru – In a major development, the Karnataka Health Department has banned the use of 15 unsafe beauty-enhancing products and medicines, including paracetamol.

The Karnataka Food Safety and Drug Administration has released a list of unsafe cosmetic medicines and pharmaceutical products. This list includes paracetamol, which is commonly used to treat fever, and several other products, such as “O Shanti Gold Kumkum” produced in Mysuru. The health department has issued a circular stating that the production, sale, and use of these unsafe products is prohibited.

In May, the health department had collected samples of these cosmetic medicines and sent them for testing. The test reports identified 15 such cosmetic products and medicines, including “O Shanti Gold Kumkum,” as unsafe.

A media outlet reported that both in-state and out-of-state pharmaceutical companies are included in the list. The health department has issued a directive prohibiting the use and sale of these unsafe medicines and cosmetics.

The circular states that pharmaceutical and cosmetic drug traders, wholesale medicine distributors, doctors, hospitals, and nursing homes are prohibited from stocking, selling, or using the unsafe cosmetic products and medicines listed.
