Bjp Unplugs Two Rebels : S T Somashekar and Shivaram Hebbar Expelled for Six Years

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has finally pulled the plug on its two legislators, ST Somashekhar and Shivaram Hebbar. Both MLAs have been expelled from the party for a six-year term, following a long trail of anti-party activity and, as insiders call it, “repeated romance with the rival camp.”

The official letter came from the BJP High Command this week, citing persistent indiscipline and open defiance. While the expulsion had been brewing for months, the final trigger, it seems, was a dinner, not a policy breach or floor-crossing, but biryani with Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar. That, and a slew of pro-Congress statements that even party workers found hard to digest.

BJP state president B.Y. Vijayendra had been dropping enough hints throughout May. Speaking earlier this month, he said the two MLAs had crossed all limits, and action was “only a matter of time.” True to his word, the axe has now fallen.
Both Somashekhar and Hebbar, once prominent faces of the 2019 Operation Lotus, now seem to be tasting their own medicine. From bringing down a Congress-JD(S) coalition then, to now being seen in company of the Congress leadership, this is a not so graceful political full circle.

According to party sources, reports were submitted two or three times to the BJP Central Disciplinary Committee. These weren’t casual complaints but constituency-level feedback, signed reports from district presidents, video evidence, and even newspaper clippings on internal sedition.
Just days ago, Basanagouda Patil Yatnal, another vocal critic within the saffron family was shown the door. It’s clear that the party is in no mood to tolerate ‘internal Congress’ any longer.
With the Lok Sabha elections over and the party reorganizing itself, the BJP seems to be getting ready for a more disciplined run in Karnataka and possibly setting its sights on the 2028 state elections more seriously.

As for Somashekhar and Hebbar, sources say they might join the Congress, the same party they helped topple just a few years ago. If they do, it would be a rare political twist, even by Karnataka’s dramatic standards.

For now, the BJP has given a clear message: attend Congress dinners, and you may not be back for BJP breakfasts.
