Chetan Ahimsa Sparks Controversy Over Dr. Rajkumar Memorial Land Allocation in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: The ongoing birth anniversary celebrations of the legendary Kannada icon, Dr. Rajkumar, have taken an unexpected turn following a controversial statement by actor and activist Chetan Ahimsa. While fans across the state are busy honoring the ‘Natasarvabhouma,’ Chetan’s recent social media post has stirred significant debate regarding the memorial’s land allocation in the heart of Bengaluru.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Chetan Ahimsa raised concerns about the 2.5 acres of land granted for the Dr. Rajkumar memorial complex back in 2006. While acknowledging Dr. Rajkumar’s unparalleled contribution to the arts and his status as a cultural icon, Chetan questioned the necessity of allocating such a large parcel of prime land in the city center for a memorial.
“We respect Dr. Rajkumar as a great artist,” Chetan stated in his post. “However, one must question if allocating 2.5 acres in the heart of Bengaluru city for a ‘Samadhi complex’ for an actor was a well-thought-out decision.”
Chetan further emphasized that land remains one of the most critical issues in 21st-century India. He urged the government to prioritize public utility and future-oriented urban planning over what he termed “opportunistic moves aimed at vote-bank politics.”
The timing of the statement, coinciding with the actor’s birth anniversary celebrations, has drawn sharp reactions from netizens and fans alike. Many have taken to social media to defend the memorial, arguing that the tribute to a legendary figure who redefined Kannada cinema is justified and holds immense emotional value for millions of Kannadigas.
