Good News for Bengalureans: Government Grants Official Recognition to B Khata Properties

Bengaluru: In a major relief to property owners in Bengaluru, the Karnataka government has announced that B Khata properties will now receive official recognition, similar to A Khata properties. This decision was approved by the state cabinet, aiming to put an end to the long-standing confusion between A Khata and B Khata classifications within the Greater Bengaluru region.
The government will soon issue an official notification to implement this decision. According to the cabinet resolution, B Khata properties valid between May 22, 2020, and September 30, 2024, will be considered legally valid for all official purposes. This move is expected to resolve issues related to BBMP planning approvals, occupancy certificates (OC), and bank loans that B Khata property owners have long faced. Further clarifications on the government’s guidelines are expected in the coming days.
In addition, the cabinet has also approved the formation of five new municipal corporations under the Greater Bengaluru Authority. However, there remains some uncertainty regarding the jurisdiction and boundaries of these proposed bodies. The cabinet has recommended convening a meeting of local MLAs to finalize these details.
Meanwhile, the cabinet has given in-principle approval for the establishment of a nuclear power plant in Karnataka. It has also directed NTPC (National Thermal Power Corporation) to examine suitable locations across the state. Although NTPC initially suggested three potential sites, the cabinet has decided to conduct a broader feasibility study to explore more possible locations across Karnataka.
