Tirumakudalu Narasipura:The sacred Confiuence Where Legends and Divinity Merge

Tirumakudalu Narasipura, often revered as Dakshina Kashi, is a land set at the sacred confluence of three rivers; the mighty Kaveri, the enigmatic Kabini, and the mystical Spatika Sarovara (also known as Gupta Gamini), this revered kshetra has drawn sages, saints, and seekers of spiritual wisdom for millennia.
This Kshetra (sacred place) finds its mention as Trimakoota in the Skanda Purana. Gunja Narasimhaswamy temple that is located on the right bank of river Kabini lends the name Narasipura to this revered land. But what truly enshrines its sanctity is the legend of Sage Agasthya and his divine intervention.
Legends speak of Sage Agasthya visiting this land and getting entranced by the place wanted to install a Shiva Linga to mark the sacredness of the site. He requested Lord Hanuman to bring a Linga from Kashi. The auspicious moment was nearing and Agasthya Muni, who did not find Hanuman, unwilling to delay, sculpted a Linga from the very sands of the riverbank and consecrated it. Just then, Hanuman arrived, only to find that his mission had been preempted. Enraged, he struck the Linga, severing its top, leading to the miraculous emergence of Spatika Sarovara. To this day, the holy water(theertha) from this sarovara is offered to and they drink the sacred Spatika Sarovara thirtha, believing in its celestial origins and transformative power.
The linga that Hanuman brought was consecrated a little distance away and is called the Hanuman Linga.
But here’s the intriguing part, if Sage Agasthya was entranced by the confluence of the three rivers and desired to establish a Linga here, then how did Spatika Sarovara appear after the severing of his Linga? Was it already present, or did the divine act of Hanuman bring it into existence? Such questions, of course, belong to the realm of faith, where logic takes a backseat, and belief reigns supreme. After all, myths are not mere tales; they are windows into the spiritual cosmos, offering solace, devotion, and a deep sense of connection to the divine.
Tirumakudalu Narasipura remains a timeless sanctum where celestial energies converge. With every sip of the sacred Spatika Sarovara teertha, devotees partake in a legacy that transcends time, embracing the profound grace of this land.
Whether one seeks enlightenment, purification, or simply the serenity of a spiritual retreat, this revered kshetra welcomes all, its divinity unwavering through the ages.
