The Chief Electoral Officer’s (CEO) office in Karnataka has officially published the state’s final electoral roll following the extensive Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise. The comprehensive update has led to the exclusion of more than 1.08 crore voters, bringing Karnataka’s total registered electorate down from 5.54 crore to 4.54 crore.

The landmark exercise—the first intensive revision carried out in the state since 2002—was initiated on June 30 to clean up voter databases through grassroots verification by Booth Level Officers (BLOs) visiting households across districts.

Key Highlights of Karnataka’s Final Electoral Roll

 Pre-SIR Electorate: 5,54,32,314 voters

 Post-SIR Electorate: 4,54,55,689 voters

Total Deletions: 1,08,76,625 enumeration forms excluded

Gender Breakdown: 2,25,40,493 male voters, 2,29,12,355 female voters, and 2,841 third-gender electors

Youth Voters: Over 6.83 lakh registered voters fall within the 18–19 age bracket

Breakdown of Deletions and Non-Enumeration

Out of the 5.54 crore original entries, nearly 4.46 crore enumeration forms were successfully signed and submitted during the initial household survey phase, leading to their inclusion in the draft roll published on August 24.

However, approximately 1.07 crore records were left un-enumerated or categorized under missing verification criteria, primarily spanning four categories:

1. Permanently Shifted: 65,45,679 voters (11.81%)

2. Absent: 19,00,926 voters (3.43%)

3. Deceased: 16,39,864 voters (2.96%)

4. Duplicate or Enrolled Elsewhere: 7,09,870 voters (1.28%)

Strict Notice and Hearing Process

To ensure absolute transparency, the Election Commission generated and delivered 43,82,824 notices to electors requiring further record validation. Mandatory hearings were conducted across all contested cases, concluding on October 22. Following rigorous verification, 61,867 electors were formally declared ineligible for inclusion in the final electoral rolls.

During the claims and objections window—which remained open from August 24 to September 23—10.08 lakh new voters were added (largely via Form 6 registrations), while 1.88 lakh names were deleted and 8.96 lakh entries updated with corrections.

Eligible citizens can verify their current registration status and check their names on the updated rolls through the official Election Commission voter services portal.
