Headline: Bengaluru CCB Arrests Delhi Man in Major Breakthrough Over Karnataka Sting Operation Row
The Bengaluru Central Crime Branch (CCB) police have made their first major breakthrough in the high-profile Karnataka sting operation controversy, arresting a Delhi-based individual in connection with the circulation of a controversial video.
The case centers around a purported sting video, allegedly filmed in 2023 and recently broadcast by local television networks, which attempts to link former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to allegations of blackmail and a purported honey-trap network.
First Arrest and Digital Trail Investigation
The suspect, identified as Ritesh Pandey, was detained in New Delhi and brought to Bengaluru for rigorous interrogation. Investigators are currently probing the digital footprint behind the video, focusing specifically on how and where the footage was uploaded and rapidly circulated across social media platforms like Facebook.
According to police sources cited by the Times of India, Ritesh allegedly confessed during initial questioning that he uploaded the controversial video following instructions from an individual linked to the Janata Dal (Secular) [JD(S)] social media team. Furthermore, Deccan Herald reported that investigators are examining his connection to a secondary mobile phone suspected to have been utilized for uploading the digital file.
Political Fallout and Legal Action
The explosive controversy has triggered intense political friction across Karnataka. Siddaramaiah has strongly maintained that the purported sting operation was a calculated political conspiracy orchestrated to blackmail him and tarnish his political reputation. Meanwhile, his son, Urban Development Minister Yathindra Siddaramaiah, has publicly alleged that internal elements within the Congress party may also have been involved in the episode.
In response to the viral spread of the content, a Bengaluru civil court issued an interim injunction, barring specific media houses and digital platforms from broadcasting or publishing defamatory material linking political figures to the sting operation.
On the political front, the JD(S) has demanded an independent, impartial probe into the origin, recording, and deliberate circulation of the footage, alleging that the video was manipulated for malicious political gains.
Next Steps in the Investigation
State Home Minister Priyank Kharge confirmed that formal notices have been served to several individuals suspected of uploading, amplifying, or sharing the video online. While some suspects remain untraceable, law enforcement agencies are actively tracking digital IP trails to locate and question them.
The CCB’s ongoing probe is expected to uncover further links as investigators map out the network responsible for manufacturing and weaponizing the digital content.
