BENGALURU: In a significant political development, the Congress High Command has summoned senior leader and Home Minister Dr. G. Parameshwara to New Delhi for urgent high-level consultations with Rahul Gandhi.

The political move comes at a crucial juncture when the ruling Congress administration in Karnataka is navigating intense political turmoil triggered by alleged sting operation CDs and pen-drive controversies targeting state leadership. Party insiders indicate that Rahul Gandhi is set to entrust Dr. Parameshwara with larger organizational and administrative responsibilities to stabilize the state government and manage the political narrative.

High-Stakes Summit with Rahul Gandhi

According to top sources within the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), the central leadership is seeking Dr. Parameshwara’s experienced counsel to tackle the ongoing controversy head-on. Known as a seasoned, soft-spoken, and consensus-building leader, Dr. Parameshwara’s influence is seen as key to steering the party clear of damaging factionalism and external attacks.

“The High Command wants a direct, on-ground assessment of the current state of affairs in Karnataka,” a senior party strategist revealed. “Dr. Parameshwara has long been a stabilizing factor in the state unit. Giving him an expanded role signals the party leadership’s intent to maintain absolute discipline and safeguard the image of the Karnataka government.”

CD Controversy and Factional Dynamics

The political temperature in Bengaluru has risen sharply following allegations involving controversial recordings and pen drives that threaten to engulf key ministers and party figures. Opposition parties have been relentlessly demanding accountability, pushing the Congress state unit on the defensive.

By involving Dr. Parameshwara directly in discussions in the national capital, the party high command aims to achieve three strategic goals:

Internal Stabilization: Diffuse growing friction between internal factions within the Karnataka cabinet.

Crisis Management: Establish a unified, authoritative defense mechanism against opposition attacks surrounding the sting operation claims.

Caste and Regional Balance: Reinforce the prominent role of Dalit leadership within the state government and organizational hierarchy.

Expanding Responsibilities on the Anvil

Speculation is rife in the corridors of power that Dr. Parameshwara may be handed additional administrative oversight or an elevated organizational portfolio. As the longest-serving former KPCC president, his track record of handling party machinery during turbulent phases makes him a trusted choice for Rahul Gandhi and the AICC top brass.
