BENGALURU — Senior IPS officers Laburam and Chethan Rathod have been recommended by the Karnataka government to lead the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the alleged Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) recruitment scams. The recommendation comes as the state strongly opposed the inclusion of senior officer Alok Kumar before the Supreme Court.
During the hearing on a plea filed by the state government, the Supreme Court bench questioned why IPS officer Alok Kumar should not be entrusted with heading the investigation unit.
In response, senior advocate Kapil Sibal, representing the Karnataka government, presented Alok Kumar’s case history to the top court, citing a past phone-tapping case registered against him as the primary reason for objecting to his appointment.
State Pushes for New SIT Leadership
Advocating for a fresh probe panel, the state government urged the apex court to accept the names of Laburam and Chethan Rathod to ensure a smooth and impartial investigation.
The KPSC appointment scam has drawn massive political and public scrutiny over alleged corruption and irregularities in civil service recruitments across the state. The Supreme Court is expected to deliberate on the submitted case details before finalizing the leadership and structure of the SIT.
