144 km of Bengaluru Satellite Town Ring Road to Become Operational by November 2026

BANGALORE: In a major push to decongest the tech capital’s choked arterial routes, nearly half of the ambitious 288 km Bengaluru Satellite Town Ring Road (STRR) project is set to be fully operational by November 2026.
Once opened, the 144 km continuous ring corridor will allow heavy vehicles and inter-state traffic to bypass core Bengaluru completely, connecting Dobaspet directly to Hosur via Doddaballapura, Devanahalli, Hoskote, and the Karnataka–Tamil Nadu border.
Key Project Milestones & Progress
Dobaspet–Hoskote Belt: An 80 km stretch running through Doddaballapura and Devanahalli has already been operational for over two years, serving key industrial and commercial freight zones.
Karnataka Border Link: Construction on the remaining 21 km greenfield segment stretching up to the Tamil Nadu border is near completion, with final safety, surfacing, and load-testing scheduled ahead of the November 2026 launch.
Tamil Nadu Section: Across the state line, a 35.76 km greenfield road reaching Belagondapalli is over 91% complete and is targeted for commissioning by September 2026.
Expressway Integration: Combined with a completed 7 km link connected to the Bengaluru–Chennai Expressway, these sections form the seamless 144 km primary ring route.
Faster Airport Access and Reduced Truck Transit
The newly operational corridor is expected to offer a faster alternative route between Hosur and Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) via a direct interchange with the Bengaluru–Chennai Expressway. Traffic planners estimate this will take thousands of commercial trucks off Outer Ring Road (ORR) and inner city routes, significantly cutting down commute times for local commuters.
Constructed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) across six execution packages at an estimated cost of ₹14,655 crore, the overall STRR network spans 243 km in Karnataka and 45 km in Tamil Nadu.
NHAI officials indicated that remaining site work will focus on deck slab construction, concrete curing, road surfacing, guardrail installations, and load testing over the coming months to guarantee structural safety before opening the corridor to public traffic.
