Mandya: In a significant move to address rural housing needs, Mandya MLA P. Ravikumar Gowda (Ganiga) fulfilled a quarter-century-old dream for the residents of Hallegere Gram Panchayat on Sunday. The MLA officially laid the foundation stone for the “Ravi Goodu” (Ravi’s Nest) Ashraya Layout, marking the end of a 25-year struggle for landless families in the region.

The groundbreaking ceremony (Bhoomi Puja) took place in Tangalagere village, where the new residential colony will be developed. The project aims to provide free housing sites to eligible beneficiaries who have been waiting for government-allotted land since the late 1990s.

A New Beginning for ‘Ravi Goodu’

Speaking at the event, MLA Ravikumar Gowda emphasized his commitment to ensuring that every family in his constituency has a roof over their head. The layout, aptly named “Ravi Goodu,” is being developed under the Ashraya Scheme to provide a planned residential environment for the underprivileged.

“The 25-year-long wait of the landless families of Hallegere Panchayat ends today. Our priority is to ensure that basic dignity and housing reach the last person in the village,” the MLA stated during the ceremony.

Notables in Attendance

The event saw a gathering of prominent local figures and supporters, including:

• Chikkaballi Krishnappa and Tyagaraju, Senior Congress leaders.

• Mandya Lokesh, popular Kannada film actor.

• Leaders from the Hallegere Panchayat and hundreds of villagers from the surrounding areas.

The local community expressed immense relief and gratitude, as many families had spent decades in rented spaces or cramped ancestral homes awaiting this allocation.
