The upcoming BBMP elections are expected in February 2026, confirms Minister Ramalinga Reddy, as Congress leaders prepare for polls across the expanded 369 wards of Greater Bengaluru.
BM TEAM | Bengaluru, Oct 11:
The much-awaited Greater Bengaluru Corporation elections are likely to take place in February 2025, confirmed Karnataka Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy during a meeting of Congress leaders at the KPCC office on Friday.
The meeting, held at the Congress Bhavan in Bengaluru, focused on strategizing for the civic polls and strengthening the party’s local network. Former MP D.K. Suresh called on Congress workers across the Greater Bengaluru region to begin early groundwork and increase their outreach in their respective wards.
During the discussions, Suresh sought clarity on the election schedule. In response, Ramalinga Reddy confirmed that the Greater Bengaluru Corporation elections would be held in February, bringing clarity to party cadres.
Suresh also revealed that the expanded Greater Bengaluru limits will now include 369 wards, as proposed by the civic body — marking a major increase in administrative reach compared to previous years. The inclusion of new areas is expected to reshape urban governance and representation in one of India’s fastest-growing cities.
KPCC President and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, addressing the gathering, stressed the importance of grassroots mobilisation and early candidate preparation. He also reaffirmed the Congress government’s commitment to gender inclusion, announcing that 50% of all corporator seats will be reserved for women.
“Those who wish to become corporators should start working in their wards immediately. Ramalinga Reddy began his journey as a corporator and today serves as a minister. This election is a great opportunity for others to follow a similar path,” said Shivakumar. With the Congress leadership sharpening its focus on the BBMP polls, the meeting marked the beginning of intensive poll planning and booth-level coordination. The 2026 Greater Bengaluru Corporation election, covering 369 wards, is expected to play a decisive role in shaping the city’s civic administration, infrastructure planning, and political landscape for the next five years.
