Bangalore Mail Staff Reporter

Karwar: Early this morning, officials from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) carried out a raid at the Chittakula residence of Congress MLA Satish Sail in Karwar taluk.

The raid was led by ED officer Keshav, accompanied by six officials and a 12-member armed paramilitary team. At the time of the operation, neither the MLA nor his family members were at home. Officials questioned a domestic worker present at the residence, and a formal summons has been issued to Satish Sail.

Satish Sail, through Mallikarjun Shipping Company, has previously been accused of illegally transporting iron ore. He was convicted in an illegal mining case and served a prison sentence following a complaint filed by a team headed by former Lokayukta Santosh Hegde. The conviction was delivered by a special court for public representatives, but Sail was later released on bail by the High Court.

In addition to the illegal mining charges, Sail also faces allegations of amassing wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income. The ongoing ED action is believed to be linked to these charges.
