Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar walked out of the Sadhana Samavesha event held at Maharaja’s College Grounds in Mysuru today, just before Chief Minister Siddaramaiah was scheduled to address the gathering. Shivakumar later clarified that he had prior departmental engagements in Bengaluru, which required his immediate attention.

However, his sudden departure did not go unnoticed. During the welcome address, when a senior Congress leader suggested that Shivakumar’s name be included in the acknowledgments, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah responded sharply.

“He isn’t here, is he? Shivakumar said he had to go to Bengaluru and left. Since he’s not on stage, I didn’t mention his name,” the CM said. In a pointed remark, Siddaramaiah added, “Welcomes are extended to those present on the dais — not to those sitting at home.”

The comment, perceived as a veiled rebuke, hinted at underlying tensions between the two senior leaders of the state government. The incident has sparked speculation about growing friction within the party ranks as Karnataka heads into a crucial political phase.
