Bengaluru: In a major boost to high-speed rail connectivity, Karnataka is set to welcome the much-anticipated Bengaluru–Shivamogga Vande Bharat Express. The new semi-high-speed service promises to enhance travel efficiency between the state capital and Central Karnataka, offering a faster, more comfortable option for students, professionals, and business travelers.

The announcement was made by Bengaluru Central MP P C Mohan via the social media platform X, where he posted, “Shivamogga–Bengaluru Vande Bharat soon.” While the exact launch date and timetable are yet to be officially released, preparations are underway for what is expected to be a game-changing addition to the region’s transportation network.

Shivamogga, located approximately 300 kilometers from Bengaluru, has long awaited a Vande Bharat service. The demand gained momentum following recent infrastructure developments in the city, including the inauguration of Shivamogga Airport by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2023. The upcoming Vande Bharat Express is expected to complement the air route, offering a reliable and swift rail alternative for daily and frequent commuters.

Once operational, this will be Karnataka’s 12th Vande Bharat service, further expanding the state’s premium rail network. With this addition, Bengaluru will enjoy direct Vande Bharat connectivity to seven key destinations: Mysuru, Chennai, Ernakulam, Hyderabad, Dharwad, Coimbatore, and Belagavi.

Earlier this year, Karnataka witnessed the launch of the Bengaluru–Belagavi Vande Bharat Express, which follows a day-return model, departing from Belagavi in the morning and returning by night. The success of this service has set the stage for similar efficient scheduling on the Shivamogga route.

As Vande Bharat trains continue to redefine intercity travel with reduced travel times and enhanced onboard amenities, the upcoming Bengaluru–Shivamogga service marks yet another milestone in transforming Karnataka’s public transport landscape.
