A political storm has erupted in Karnataka after an alleged audio clip went viral. In the clip, B.R. Patil, a Congress MLA from Aland, accuses officials linked to the Rajiv Gandhi Housing Corporation of corruption. Patil claims that under the housing scheme, homes were only allocated to those who paid bribes. He alleges that recommendation letters from elected representatives like himself were ignored.

According to India Today, the audio is said to be a conversation between B.R. Patil and Sarfaraz Khan, the personal assistant of Housing Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan. In the clip, Patil says, “Whoever paid money got houses — is this a business?” He further accuses the Housing Corporation of ignoring his recommendations while prioritizing those who offered bribes.

In the audio, B.R. Patil can be heard saying, “If this is true, what respect will I have left?” However, Sarfaraz Khan denies the allegations in the clip and says that if full details of those who took bribes are provided, they will be sent to jail. Patil also says that if the list of beneficiaries is made public, the government will be shaken. He alleges that bribes were taken for the allocation of 950 houses in his Aland constituency — including 200 in Munnalli, 100 in Hittala Shirur, 200 in Dangapur, and 200 each in Kavalga and Madial.

The BJP took advantage upon this issue to attack the Karnataka government. Senior BJP leader B.S. Yediyurappa said that what B.R. Patil is saying is “100 percent true” and that no work in this government is possible without bribery — even Congress MLAs themselves are admitting it. He said the government should acknowledge this and correct its mistakes. Additionally, BJP MLA from Hubballi, Mahesh Tenginkai, also criticized Congress, saying that senior Congress leader B.R. Patil is himself acknowledging in the audio that money is required for any work under the Congress government — even for housing allotments. He labeled the Congress government as “100 percent
