Siddaramaiah Looses His Cool,Almost Slaps Additional Superintendent of Police in Belgaum

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah publicly reprimanded Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Narayan Bharamani during the “Samvidhan Bachao and Anti Price Rise Rally” in Belagavi on Monday. The incident unfolded amid protests by BJP workers near the rally venue.
As Siddaramaiah began his address, a commotion broke out outside the venue between BJP women protestors and the police. Visibly angered by the disruption, the Chief Minister summoned ASP Bharamani onto the stage, questioned his handling of security, and raised his hand in a gesture of reprimand, though no physical contact occurred.
“You, whoever you are, come here. What were you doing?” Siddaramaiah demanded from the stage, before lowering his hand.
Following the incident, Siddaramaiah also questioned Belagavi district incharge minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar regarding the security arrangements, expressing dissatisfaction over the lapses.
The rally, organised by the Congress under the banner of “Samvidhan Bachao and Anti Price Rise Rally,” was aimed at criticizing the Central government over inflation and alleged attempts to weaken constitutional rights.
The Chief Minister’s reaction was reportedly triggered by a scuffle involving BJP women protestors and the police force, who were tasked with managing stage security. ASP Bharamani had been stationed at the venue to oversee the arrangements.
The confrontation sparked immediate political reactions. The Janata Dal (Secular) [JDS] criticized Siddaramaiah on social media platform X, describing the Chief Minister’s action as “arrogant” and “disrespectful.” The party stated, “Your term of power is only five years. But a government officer serves up to 60 years of age. Power is not permanent for anyone. Correct your misconduct.”
The BJP also condemned the Chief Minister’s behavior, calling it an insult to the police force.
