Former Karnataka State Police Chief and 1981 batch IPS officer Om Prakash, 68, was found murdered at his H.S.R. Layout residence in Bengaluru on Sunday evening, April 20, 2025. Initial investigations suggest the use of a sharp weapon, leading to significant blood loss and death. The motive behind the murder remains unclear, and no arrests have been made as of now.
His wife, Pallavi, has emerged as the key suspect and has been detained by the Bengaluru police for questioning. Bengaluru Additional Commissioner of Police Vikas Kumar stated that the police received a call from the family informing about the death between 4:00 and 4:30 PM. A formal complaint has been registered by Om Prakash’s son, and a detailed investigation is underway.
Preliminary reports point towards a possible domestic dispute. Police have ruled out external intrusion at the scene.
Om Prakash served in various high-ranking roles during his tenure and retired as DGP of Karnataka. His career had previously drawn public attention due to multiple controversies involving his son and allegations related to land disputes and personal threats.
In 2016, a farmer named Shivanna from Ramanagara district committed suicide, leaving behind a video in which he accused Om Prakash’s son, Kartikesh, and other police officials of harassment over a property dispute. Additionally, a woman named Sadhana Rajalakshmi alleged that she had been in a relationship with Om Prakash and that his son and associates were threatening her over property matters.
The investigation continues, with police examining all angles, including past disputes and family dynamics.
