Kannada Language psychological thriller Nimitta Matra, written and directed by Roshan D’Souza, masterfully blends mystery, suspense, and elements of parapsychology to deliver an engaging cinematic experience. It does keep the viewers on the edge of your seat for its entire runtime.

Revolving around an investigative journalist who reopens a 15-year-old unresolved case in Mangaluru, his journey to uncover the truth is filled with gripping twists and thought-provoking questions.

Performances is what brings story to life and Aravind Kuplikar shines in his role, bringing depth and intensity to his character. His presence adds a unique edge to the film, proving yet again his ability to breathe life into any role. His portrayal of Ajaz Mallik lights up the screen, reinforcing his reputation as a versatile actor.

The female lead, Sangeetha Rajeev is expressive and mature in her performance, doing full justice to her role. Sangeetha has managed joint screenplay, music and played the role of female protagonist. She has delivered an impressive performance. It’s refreshing to see women taking up diverse roles in the industry, and she executes each of her responsibilities skillfully.
Proonachandra, delivers a commendable performance, balancing his role with Kuplikar effortlessly.

The narrative is tight and there’s never a dull moment. The brilliant use of multiple Kannada dialects ranging from North Karnataka and Mangaluru accents to the standard Bengaluru dialect adds an authentic touch to the storytelling.
The action sequences are realistic, avoiding unnecessary exaggeration. The cinematography is striking, story gripping and editing crisp.
The whole ensemble with well etched characters, an excellent performance, a haunting mystery and a climax that delivers a punch Nimitta Matra proves to be a worthy addition to Kannada cinema’s suspense-thriller genre.

For a small-budget film that dares to explore parapsychology, Nimitta Matram achieves remarkable success. With a debutant filmmaker, a fresh female lead, and seasoned theater actors, the film could have faced many pitfalls, but instead, it soars.

If you’re a fan of investigative thrillers with a psychological edge, this one is definitely worth your time.
