The political arena of Karnataka is all set to witness a major shift with the number of assembly seats rising to 298 post-delimitation. 74 of these could be exclusively reserved for women candidates!
The real gamechanger isn’t just the numbers; it’s the bold move to reserve larger constituencies for women, often at the expense of long-standing political stalwarts.
The delimitation exercise, last conducted in 2008, typically happens once every 25 years. Notably, this process is all set to become a 20-year affair, ensuring more frequent adaptations to demographic shifts.
The latest recommendations by the Delimitation Committee, unanimously accepted by the ruling BJP and opposition parties alike, signal an exciting shift. Starting with a caste census in 2026, the revised electoral map will take effect by 2028.
Reserving 74 seats for women in Karnataka is not just about representation, it’s about opportunity and inclusivity. Women leaders will now have a shot at contesting from prominent constituencies historically dominated by political veterans. This move levels the playing field in ways never seen before.
Unsurprisingly, political parties are already gearing up for this transformation, identifying and grooming prospective women candidates for the 2028 elections. But will this be a token gesture or a will it etch a mark in Karnataka’s political narrative?
As the clock ticks towards implementation, one thing is certain: the upcoming elections won’t just redefine power, they’ll determine whose hands will hold the reins of Karnataka’s future.
