Santosh Lad succours ‘Ambedkar social benefit ‘ to the unorganized sector

Labour Minister Santosh Lad has come up with innovative measures to support the long neglected twenty unorganized sectors , which is going to be implemented for the first time in the history of Karnataka State governance .

This support scheme is known as ‘Ambedkar karmikara sahaya hasta yojane ‘ , which covers social benefits to the 20 more unorganized sectors.

The beneficiaries of this scheme include Domestic helps, tailors, mechanics, barbers , blacksmiths, goldsmiths, luggage porters,rag pickers , dhobis, toddy tappers, earthenware pot makers , film industry labourers, weavers , street vendors, hotel industry labourers, community hall labourers, tendu tobacco labourers, photographers, independent writers , and few more .

The gig workers , motor transportation labourers , unorganised physically challenged labourers from the gypsy tribe were previously included in this scheme which makes the total to twenty three sectors of beneficiaries .

The benefits under this scheme covers insurance for unintended accidents ( one lakh rupees) natural deaths ( one lakhs rupees) , refundable hospital expenses ( fifty thousand) , funeral expenses for natural deaths ( ten thousand) .

All the twenty three above mentioned beneficiary groups will be issued a smart card once registered under this scheme .

Speaking to Bangalore Mail, Labour Minister Santosh Lad said ‘ These sectors never had social benefits till date for decades since independence .I was emotionally moved to see them toil hard daily and yet suffer without any benefit and insurance schemes. They are part of our daily life and support the society with their hard labour .I have named this social benefit scheme in the name social crusader Dr BR Ambedkar ”.
