One of the few  gentleman in politics. That is Karnataka’s Home Minister G Parameshwara, who has never clamoured for power despite being eligible for top posts. As Parameshwara turns 73 years on Tuesday, Bengaluru  Mail  takes a look back on his political journey, which has not been an easy one.

Dr Parameshwara started his political journey as Kpcc Joint Secretary appointed by former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi himself , as soon as he returned back from Brisbane with a PhD.

As he had passion for teaching , he volunteerly opted to be an Education Minister in the S M Krishna cabinet in 1999 , Even though he was offered more bigger portfolios.

For many unversed, Dr Parameshwara was a film actor too.He has acted in Australian War movie Gallipoli released in 1981.He was an excellent athlete who represented UAS university in Bangalore.

Dr Parameshwara was one of the longest serving Kpcc Presidents in the Congress party. Dr Parameshwara proved a successful Kpcc president by bring the party to power twice in 2013 and 2018.

Dr Parameshwara lost opportunity of becoming the Chief Minister when he lost assembly polls from Koratagere constituency in 2013. Many political analysts attribute his defeated to an internal conspiracy led by many prominent leaders from his own party because they never wanted him as the Chief Minister, as he belongs to marginalized community.

In 2018, he again lost opportunity of becoming the Chief Minister, as the Congress high command had to meet demands of their coalition partner JD(S) by making H D Kumaraswamy as the Chief Minister.

His tenure as Kpcc president for 8 years , and as the Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister has been admired and respected both by the Congress party Cadre and the general public.

Dr Parameshwara at 73 , stills holds a chance of being the Chief Minister of state given the current state situations.
