Firebrand Dalit leader and BJP MLC Chalavadi Narayanswamy (aged 65 years) has been appointed as the Leader of Opposition in the Karnataka Council today .

BJP state chief B Y Vijayendra made an official announcement to the Media today in late evening about Narayanswamy ‘s appointment.

Chalavadi Narayanswamy was a firebrand Dalit leader from his student days and involved in many important Dalit movements, that shaped the outlook of Dalit politics, across state before joining active politics.

Highly respected and regarded as a clean hand and a no-nonsense leader ,Narayanswamy served Congress party with all loyalty for around 40 years but was denied many opportunities as Rajyasabha and Council member . He took a final call of joining BJP immediately after being denied Devanahalli assembly ticket in 2018.

Chalavadi Narayanswamy ‘s appointment as the Leader of Opposition in Council is strategically timed when the Congress is facing backlash by the public and its voters over misuse of funds in Valmiki corporation and the funds allocated for Social Welfare ministry used for the Guarantee schemes.
