C P Yogeshwar ,the former Channapatna MLA is amongst the favorite of Channapatna voters for this by-elections . But many want him to contest from JD(S) , which he may not as he is the incumbent MLC from BJP.
Team Bangalore Mail , which accurately predicted that Congress will get only 9 seats in this loksabha elections, has done its survey for Channapatna by-elections too .
Though people do sympathize for CPY’s sacrifice and honest efforts in ensuring victory of BJP candidate Dr Manjunath, The rise of H D Kumaraswamy into national politics has brought in a new euphoria for JD(S) Cadre. Now the JD(S ) doesn’t want to lose its bastion .It reminiscences that their ordinary party worker like M.C.Ashwath , Sim.Lin Nagaraj won Channapatna seat in a big margin.
Keeping historical facts in mind, JD(S) wants to retain the seat by first preferring CPY as their party candidate.
CPY is still a hero in the hearts of Channapatna voters as he’s the man who brought irrigation projects to the land by Initiating the Iglur dam project.
CPY has shown his strength as a leader in this Vokkaliga bastion by winning Channapatna assembly polls as an Independent in 1999, as a member of Samajavadi Party in 2013 , thus making a statement he can win polls single handedly without any political party’s support.
But the scenario has changed, it is the NDA which has to decide the candidate and not BJP anymore .
CPY’s loyalty to BJP will surely reap benefits for him politically whether he contests this by-elections or not .
